The Cob

About The Cob

The Cob (which is sometimes referred to as a Show Cob) is a type rather than a breed. The Cob has traditionally been ridden in the UK and Ireland in showing and working classes, in riding club events, in hunts and hunter trials, and in riding schools, etc.

TCR Cob Registration

Although there are three cob categories: Lightweight Cob, Heavyweight Cob, and Maxi Cob, The Traditional Cob Registry (TCR) only registers the Heavyweight Cob and the Maxi Cob.

  1. Heavyweight Cob
The Heavyweight Cob is a cob that exceeds 148cm (14.2 hh / 58 in), but does not exceed 155 cm, and that is capable of carrying more than 89 kg (196 lb).
  2. Maxi Cob
The Maxi Cob is a Heavyweight Cob that exceeds 55 cm (15.1 hh / 61 in).
