Video Assessment

If you are having a TCR-registered animal graded online, you will be required to provide an online grading video.

Guide to making the online grading video

Before recording the video, choose a suitable location and make sure that the stallion and handler are well turned out and presented (points will be lost for bad turnout and/or presentation). When recording the video, make sure that your mobile is always in landscape mode (sideways). PRACTICE BEFORE RECORDING.

NOTE: There are three parts to the video. Record all three parts in one continuous recording.

PART 1
Breed Representation & Presentation
(max time one minute)

  1. Before you start recording the video, make sure that you are facing the LEFT (near) side of the animal at a distance of about 12 to 15 feet. When you are satisfied that the animal is standing to attention (upright and proud) and as straight and square as possible, start recording the video.
  2. Hold the camera as still as possible and walk anti-clockwise (left) until you have circled the entire stallion and have returned to the LEFT (near) side of the animal at a distance of about 12 to 15 feet (which should be at the same place you started recording the video).

PART 2
Conformation
(max time two minutes)

Neck, chest, shoulders, withers, back, body, hindquarters & legs

  1. Still facing the LEFT (near) side of the animal at a distance of about 12 to 15 feet, have the handler push any mane from the left side of the neck to the right side of the neck, so that the animal's full top-line (from the top of the head to the tail) is clearly visible.
  2. Walk around the front of the animal at a distance of about 12 to 15 feet until you are facing the RIGHT (off) side of the animal at a distance of about 12 to 15 feet.
  3. Still facing the RIGHT (off) side of the animal at a distance of about 12 to 15 feet, have the handler push any mane from the right side of the neck to the left side of the neck, so that the animal's full top-line (from the top of the head to the tail) is clearly visible.
  4. Walk around to the back of the animal at a distance of about 12 to 15 feet. Make sure that the animal is standing as straight as possible behind and have the handler pull the tail to one side so that the stallion’s hindlegs are clearly visible.
  5. Walk around to the front of the animal at a distance of about 12 to 15 feet, so that the chest and forelegs are clearly visible. Make sure that the animal is standing as straight as possible in front.

Head, ears, eyes & mouth

  1. While still standing at the front of the animal, have the handler pull the forelock so that the face (front of the head) is clearly visible. Walk from the front of the animal towards the RIGHT (off) side of the animal's head and have the handler pull the forelock to the left so that the entire right side of the head (from ears to muzzle) is clearly visible. Walk around the FRONT of the head to the LEFT (near) side of the head and have the handler pull the forelock to the right so that the entire left side of the head (from ears to muzzle) is clearly visible.
  2. Walk towards the head and have the handler pull the animal's lips apart so that the animal's bite is clearly visible.

Mane, tail hair & leg feathering

  1. Walk backwards so that you are facing the LEFT (near) side of the animal at a distance of about 12 to 15 feet and circle the animal slowly once.
  2. You can also ask the handler to pull out the leg hair, to show it off to its best advantage.

PART 3
Movement
(max time two minutes)

Walk & Trot

  1. Ask the handler to walk the animal in a straight line away from you for at least 30 feet, and to turn the animal and walk back towards you in a straight line. Repeat.
  2. Ask the handler to trot the animal in a straight line away from you for at least 40 feet, and to turn the animal and trot back towards you in a straight line. Repeat.
