The Traditional Cob Registry

The Traditional Cob Registry is an independent registry based in Ireland, created to preserve the past and define the future of the Traditional Cob breed.

Ireland is the birthplace of the original foundation Traditional Cobs that found themselves on all corners of the earth. Across the globe, there exists a multitude of segmented registries, studbooks and breed organisations that in their essence have the same goal, to preserve the breed.

Why another registry? Well apart from the Irish Cob Studbook, there exists no other registries in Ireland for the Traditional Cob. Breeders in Ireland unanimously agree that without anything being done in Ireland, Ireland will lose its Traditional Cob (Irish Cob). Due to the highly restrictive nature of an EU-regulated studbook, it is unable to have the flexibility needed to prevent Ireland from losing its native breed.

We bring forward a solution, a completely online platform for registering your cobs in a registry that is based in the birth country of the breed itself. The modern world requires modern solutions which is why we have designed our registry to be next generation. Registrations are done completely online through an easy-to-use app, we have a distance-based stallion directory that shows everything about our stallions, ownership transferring is all done online, and covering certificates are also created online.

The reason we can provide such a flexible service is that we are an independent registry and do not maintain an EU-regulated studbook or issue passports.

We also aim to promote the breed and breeders through our online groups and communities, such as the ones we run on Facebook which we encourage all breeders and enthusiasts to partake in.
