History of the Irish Drum Horse

Queen Elizabeth II's 1980s-1990s Ceremonial Drum Horse

Because a 16.3hh and over Irish Cob (Large) and a Classic Irish Drum Horse are the same breed from Ireland, the Irish Cob (Large) and the Classic Irish Drum Horse have one breed standard—the Irish Cob Breed Standard.

Irish Cob Breed Standard

An officially recognised breed

On 18 July 1996, the Irish Cob Studbook was officially recognised in Ireland.

On 16 July 1998, the Irish Cob Society (ICS) was approved to maintain the Irish Cob studbook as the EU-recognised studbook of origin of the breed (‘mother’ Irish Cob Studbook). The Irish Cob Breed Standard—authored by Evelyn Flynn (formerly Evelyn Murphy) for the ‘mother’ Irish Cob Studbook—is the first (original) Traditional Cob breed standard.
