Passport Overstamp Labels

Issued worldwide

For EU and UK equine passports
(ID passports and studbook passports)

Because TCR is an independent (self-governing) registry, TCR cannot issue EU or UK passports for TCR-registered equines. However, TCR can freely issue passport overstamp labels for TCR-registered equines that can be affixed to the non-legal ‘Other Registrations’ page of their EU or UK passports.

Non-legal pages in equine passports can be over-stamped by any breed society and/or registry in the world because they are separate from the official (regulated) passport (Sections I to X). Other examples of non-legal pages in equine passports are the ‘Height Measurement’ page, the ‘Gradingsʼ page, and the ‘Show Winningsʼ page.

TCR passport overstamp labels display:

TCR registered name
TCR registration number
Breed
Grade (if graded by TCR)
Parents (if declared to TCR)
QR Code

NOTE: Where parents are declared to TCR, the QR Code will, when scanned, display the equine’s full TCR-recorded pedigree.

Benefits of TCR passport overstamp labels

Animal welfare

In-foal and/or foal-at-foot Irish Cob and Gypsy Cob mares in the European Union (EU) with basic identification passports particularly benefit from having TCR passport overstamp labels affixed in their basic identification passports. Through TCR, owners can register those mares online (even if they do not have recorded pedigree) and receive TCR passport overstamp labels by mail—allowing the breed and pedigree of the mares to be affixed on the non legal ‘Other Registration’ page of their equine identification documents—thereby avoiding the stress, risk, or logistical challenges of transporting in-foal or foal-at-foot mares to studbook entry (supplementary section registration) inspections.

Affordability

TCR offers the most affordable online registration service available, while also providing a next-generation, international registration platform for all Traditional Cobs, including Irish Cobs, Traditional Gypsy Cobs, Gypsy Cobs, Mini Gypsy Cobs, Stepping Cobs, Drum Horses, and Part Breds.

Correct breed identity

(a) Although in the European Union (EU), the Gypsy Cob is registered as an Irish Cob in the ‘mother’ Irish Cob Studbook in Ireland (which is the EU) and in the 'daughter' Irish Cob Studbooks in other EU countries. This practice not only confuses, but it is also detrimental to purebred Irish Cob and Gypsy Cob breeding in the EU and worldwide.

(b) Because there is no ‘daughter’ Irish Cob Studbook in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), the Irish Cob is registered in the Traditional Gypsy Cob Studbook in England (which is in the UK). This practice not only confuses, but it is also detrimental to purebred Irish Cob and Gypsy Cob breeding in the UK and worldwide.

NOTE: As an independent (self-governing) registry (in Ireland), TCR can freely provide an international online registration hub for all Traditional Cobs—including Irish Cobs, Traditional Irish Cobs, Gypsy Cobs, Traditional Gypsy Cobs, Mini Gypsy Cobs, Stepping Cobs, Drum Horses, and Part Breds. By segregating the different Traditional Cob breed types under their correct breed names, TCR helps protect all Traditional Cobs breed types and Part Breds by ensuring accurate breed identification and correct breed recording.

Dual Registration

The benefit of a TCR passport overstamp label on a studbook passport—i.e. on an Irish Cob Studbook passport in the EU or on the Traditional Gypsy Cob Studbook in the UK—is that the animal would be shown on its EU or UK studbook passport to have dual registration, which means that the animal's progeny can be registered with either, or both, registries.

TCR Registration Books

Issued worldwide

In the EU and UK

Although a TCR registration book is similar to an EU or UK equine identification document (passport), it is not a passport. For this reason, an equine that is in the EU or UK should have a passport before it is issued a TCR registration book. However, where an equine that is in the EU or UK has a passport, TCR would recommend having a TCR passport overstamp label issued for equine, which can be affixed on the ‘Other Registrations’ page of the passport.

Outside the EU and UK

Although a TCR registration book is not an EU or UK equine identification document (passport), in countries outside the EU and UK (where having a passport for an equine is not a legal requirement), a TCR registration book has the same legal status as a passport. For this reason, a TCR registration book—which is similar to an EU and UK equine identification document (passport)—is ideal for an equine that is outside the EU and UK.  However, where an equine that is in the EU or UK is exported to a country outside the EU and UK with its EU or UK equine identification document (passport), TCR would recommend having a TCR passport overstamp label and/or a TCR registration book issued for the equine.

TCR Ownership Labels

Issued worldwide

When issuing a TCR registration book for a TCR-registered animal, TCR will place a TCR ownership certificate in the pocket on the back cover of the animal's TCR registration book. If the TCR-registered owner sells or gifts the animal, they can complete the Current Owner section on the New Owner Declaration on the back of the TCR ownership certificate. The new owner can then (at any time) complete the New Owner section on the New Owner Declaration and order a new TCR ownership certificate in their name.

Online ownership transferring

If you sell or gift the animal, you can transfer it online FOR FREE from your TCR account to the new owner's TCR account. If the new owner does not have a TCR account, then they will need to 'sign up' for one. After the animal has been transferred to a new owner's TCR account, the new owner will then be the TCR-recorded owner of the animal.

Requesting ownership transfer online

If you sell or gift the animal, but do not transfer it online FOR FREE from your TCR account to the new owner's TCR account, then the new owner can contact TCR and request that the animal be transferred into their TCR account (and therefore into their TCR-recorded ownership). However, TCR will charge the new owner an administration fee for transferring the animal into their TCR account.
